SAFER is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about the simple fact that marijuana is safer than alcohol. The SAFER Voter Education Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit that advocates and lobbies for laws and policies that reflect this fact. SAFER was behind the successful marijuana reform initiatives adopted by Denver voters in 2005 and 2007 as well as the statewide initiative in Colorado that garnered more than 41 percent of the vote in 2006. SAFER has also worked with college students in Colorado and around the country to adopt SAFER referenda and resolutions. These measures encourage administrators to modify campus policies so that students are no longer penalized more for marijuana use than for alcohol use.
