(202) 296-5704 The World Organization for Human Rights USA (formerly the World Organization Against Torture) is a non-governmental human rights non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of torture and other forms of cruel and inhuman treatment or punishment. To accomplish our mission we: - monitor the status and treatment of refugees and asylum seekers in the United States and provide legal assistance to prevent their return to countries where they will be victims of torture; - support the use of criminal prosecutions to punish and prevent major rights abuses by applying the principles of universal criminal jurisdiction embodied in the Convention Against Torture; - monitor and report on U.S. compliance with international human rights standards and advocate for improved government acceptance of and compliance with these standards; - support the work of the international World Organization Against Torture network
