Growing Homes mission is to provide job training and to create employment for homeless and low-income people in Chicago within the context of an organic agriculture business. The ultimate goal of Growing Home is to give people the tools they need to become self-sufficient. Growing Homes organic agriculture training program teaches participants about growing marketing and selling organic food and value-added products in both urban and rural settings. It imparts crucial skills through a combination of work and study. Growing Home currently operates two sites that serve as the base for the transitional employment program: a certified organic farm on the 10 acres of farmland that it owns in LaSalle County; and an urban market garden on the south side of Chicago Growing Home is giving homeless and low-income people the tools needed to rejoin the workforce
