The Midwest Democracy Center is a membership-based advocacy organization that works to make our government more democratic and representative. Our main goal is to bring back three-member districts to the Illinois House of Representatives elected with cumulative voting (as used from 1870-1980) so each voter had bipartisan representation. This was the only form of proportional representation any state legislature has ever used. We were successful in passing legislation in 2003 to allow county boards to give cumulative voting rights. We work to implement instant runoff voting (where voters rank candidates)
