Physicians for Peace transforms lives by training, supporting and empowering healthcare professionals working with the worlds underserved populations.Developing countries often suffer from a lack of access to quality healthcare. And a lack of access to basic, sustainable healthcare leaves many disabled and unable to lead normal and productive lives. Despite the education they have received, many physicians in developing countries lack the skills needed to properly diagnose patients or provide treatment. At Physicians for Peace, we believe that the impact is not just in providing one surgery but in training local healthcare professionals nurses, midwifes, surgeons, physical therapists and providing them with the skills needed to deliver ongoing quality healthcare. This is why we partner with leading physicians, called International Medical Educators, and visit underserved communities where we not only deliver treatment, but actually train local professionals in some of the most critical healthcare areas including burn care, disabilities, maternal and child health, and surgery. In training local professionals, we are empowering a community to become self-sufficient and to "pay-it-forward" by training others. Its a model based on three core principles: Teach, support and empower. And for 25 years, Physicians for Peace has been building upon this model, delivering access to healthcare by training local healthcare teams in over 60 countries. We are filling a gap and together we are saving lives.
