The Western Lands Project was originally created as the Western Land Exchange Project in 1997 to monitor federal land exchanges and promote reform in related federal policies. Since then our mission has expanded to include scrutiny of the myriad efforts that are under way to privatize public lands and thus we have changed our name to reflect this increased responsibility.
